Free to Serve

My favorite musical artist of all time, India Arie, has encouraged me all week with her song entitled, “Break the Shell.” I have been in silence, but now I’m free. My spiritual journey this past year as a Ministry Fellow gave me the support I needed to let fear know it no longer has the ability to keep me from accepting my call to the Pastoral ministry. Fear and I had a confrontation! Fear understands that it does not have the capacity to keep me from listening to my heart and enacting courageously.

FTE has a way of setting free the butterflies in jars! I finally broke the shell! This week during the 2013 Leaders and Ministry Conference, students from diverse religious backgrounds gather and discern our call to the ministry. Through theological reflection and self-reflection we have been challenged to be courageous in our pursuits to radically transform the communities in which we serve. FTE recognizes that young people need a safe space to reflect, engage in conversation, and express the heartbeat of God resonating within each of us.

Our transforming workshops have challenged me to be faithful to my ministry, The Ministry of Love, Inc. In small group sessions, my beloved friends offered suggestions and critiques that have helped me to realize that I have a responsibility to radically pursue the help and resources I need to serve the greater good of the communities I seek to serve.

I am forever grateful to the mission of FTE, their love and support has guided me and allowed me to search deep within my soul to uncover the truths that have been buried for so long. I am affirmed and free to be me without apology! Be ready world, I’ve accepted my call!
