Robert “Bobby” Rivera approaches Christian doctrine with a view toward understanding its contested nature and contextual character. Specifically, he seeks to engage contemporary socio-political issues from a theological perspective. As an FTE Doctoral Fellow and Ph.D. student, Bobby studies Christologies of liberation, a topic of interest and relevance since his childhood in a diverse congregation of undocumented immigrants. He is committed to a life of continued theological study, and to applying his theological studies to teaching students who are learning to think critically about fundamental theological questions.
